Sulferon: A Journey Through Greek Black Metal
Born from the shadows of Naoussa, Greece, in 2002, Sulferon emerged with a singular vision: to craft raw, uncompromising black metal deeply rooted in the genre’s traditions while forging its own identity. Founded by the enigmatic Typhonas and Aborym, the band set out to honor their influences and leave a personal mark on the Hellenic black metal scene.
The Early Years and a Resurgence
Sulferon’s initial foray into the black metal landscape saw the release of their mini-CD, “Katares ΧΞΣ” in 2002, and “To Lords Below” both of them self-released.This period, while productive, was followed by a significant hiatus. The band lay dormant until 2015, when the flame was rekindled by original member Aborym and the addition of Nekys. This reformation led to the creation and release of “Havoc Invocatum,” a testament to their enduring dedication to the craft.
A Solo Path: The Vision of Typhonas
Since the release of “Havoc Invocatum,” Sulferon has evolved into the solo project of Typhonas, and has released several albums. This shift highlights his singular artistic vision and commitment to the band’s sonic direction. Typhonas is a prolific figure in the underground metal scene, with a formidable array of other projects under his belt, including Helgast, Arcane Dread, Dismal Sleep, & Miasma. Each of these endeavors likely explores different facets of extreme music, but Sulferon remains his primary vehicle for black metal expression.
