Sunburst – A Rising Force from Larissa
The Greek metal scene has always been a fertile ground for talented bands and one of them is Sunburst, a power/progressive metal band from Larissa.
Sunburst was founded by guitarist Gus Drax ( ex-Suicidal Angels, ex-Paradox, ex-Biomechanical) in 2010, driven by a deep-rooted passion to create and express through music. After years of experience and participation in various metal projects, Drax felt the need to form a band that would reflect his personal vision, to experiment deeper with progressive sound. Sunburst was born out of this need to keep doing what he loves most: crafting music that resonates, challenges and moves both the artist and the listener.
The band blends powerful melodies, impressive guitar playing and emotional vocals to create a sound that feels both strong and personal. Their lyrical content often explores inner turmoil, existential questions and the shadows of the human condition, all delivered with musical craftsmanship.
“Fragments of Creation” (2016)
Their 2016 debut album, “Fragments of Creation” by Inner Wound Recordings, introduced Sunburst’s artistic and powerful vision. Critics hailed it as one of the most impressive debuts in modern progressive metal.
The songs here are really fun and easy to get into. What makes this so enjoyable is that Sunburst knows how to write great metal tunes and songs that people will really like. Something exciting is always happening, like a fast guitar solo, heavy riffs, or a nice-sounding chorus. Everything is designed to be instantly enjoyable, perfectly refined. But the way the songs are put together is so good and well-made, and there’s more to them than you hear at first – so it’s not just a song you’ll forget quickly.

“Manifesto” (2024)
Sunburst’s second album “Manifesto” is not just an album, it’s a declaration! Released in 2024 also by Inner Wound Recordings, it expands on Sunburst’s foundation, exploring deeper lyrical themes and more complex compositions. Tracks such as “The Flood”, “Hollow Lies”, and “From the Cradle to the Grave” are true masterpieces. The album was produced by Sunburst and Steve Lado, who also mixed and mastered the album. Bob Katsionis performs all keyboards on the album and John K came up with the orchestral arrangements on the songs “The Flood”, “Hollow Lies” and “Nocturne”. The artwork was created by SUNBURST vocalist Vasilis Georgiou (HALO Creative Design Lab).

A Live Experience you don’t Forget
Beyond the studio, Sunburst have built a strong live presence, delivering performances that match the emotional and technical intensity of their recordings. One of the most notable moments in their live journey was their participation in the Golden R Festival 2024 in Volos, a respected event in the Greek rock and metal scene. Their appearance at the festival showed their ability to command the stage with passion and connection to their audience.
