Introducing The Band
𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞 is mainly influenced by electronic underground sounds of the 1980 and 1990s, especially NDT – 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐫𝐭 / 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐤𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐭 and is a duet consisting of Shelmerdine and Sylvia Fürst.
In the beginning of 2020 the idea was born to create a band-project continuing the tradition of New German Death Art / Neue Deutsche Todeskunst, what was rising in the end of the 1980s – beginning of 1990s, especially in southern Germany.
A German and a Greek artist met and founded SCHATTEN MUSE.
The band members of Schatten Muse are no strangers to the gothic and dark music scenes. Schatten (Shelmerdine) is also a founding member of Dark Awake with which he has released over 20 albums and EPs.
Muse (Sylvia Fürst) is credited for translating the song “Gott Ist Tot” (Antichrist War Mix) by Impaled Nazarene on the “Ugra – Karma” album released in 1993.
Releases
As a part of their art, they decided to cover a song by Goethe’s Erben, a “leader band” of this genre from past days.
All lyrics are in German language and as a bonus track they recorded another cover with English lyrics but in this kind of style.
Schatten Muse have created 7 songs in this kind of old-school style, various in music and lyrics with dramatized and theatrical narration.
Their music goes from deep depressive, desperate, dark and melancholic to wistful, longing, and desireful and represents what they have recorded in early summer 2021 in Greece.
In 2022 German-Greek conspiracy Schatten Muse have released their debut album “Vergänglichkeit” via The Circle Music in physical release 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗹𝗲 Vinyl 𝗟𝗣 / 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗩inyl 𝗟𝗣 / 𝗔𝟱 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗖𝗗 / 𝗝𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗗
On “Vergänglichkeit” Schatten Muse give a new breath of life to the Neue Deutsche Todeskunst (New German Death Art) movement. With poetic lyrics about madness, desperation and isolation, Schatten Muse combine elements of dark wave, gothic, neoclassical and electro wave, all filtered through their personal prism and poetic mood along with dramatized and theatrical narration.
In 12th of December 2024 the second album ” Schicksalsweg “ released by The Circle Music in physical release Digipack Cd.
The second Schatten Muse album is haunting, mysterious, melancholic, spiritual and powerful.
The fading splendor of transience is lost in the silence… In secrecy a transcendent soundscapes becomes unveiled.
New German Art of Death
Schatten Muse is dedicated to the reactivation of the genre of New German Art of Death. In doing so, the duo follows the basic framework of discreet electronic music and theatrical text delivery.
Their music is considered particularly “Dark, Dramatic, Nihilistic, Theatrical, Tragic, Gloomy and Morbid.” Reduced to the sound surfaces of the synthesizer and low melodies, the duo creates a “Haunting Gothic Atmosphere”.
Schatten Muse has already revived the reference points of the genre with their debut: Medievalism, Black Romanticism and references to ideas and works by Sigmund Freud, Friedrich Nietzsche and Carl Gustav Jung and yet created their own style from them. Thematically, the band ties in with the content of the initiators of the genre.
“Themes such as death, nihilism, surrealism, criticism of religion, existential philosophy, mental illness, violence and isolation” are dealt with pronounced theatricality.
